The Challenge

Three minutes.

That is the extent of the time I left our older son alone this morning before he was to board the bus for school. Usually, I let him linger in bed until the last possible minute, dressing him just before it is time to walk out the door. In our house, a nine-year-old dressed and ready for the day with nothing to do is just asking for trouble.

This morning trouble came in the form of one container of loose powdered blush, a compact of pressed poder, some eyeshadow, body spray and, of course, the toilet.

Well, now, all I can say is that I have aaallllll day long in this house with his stuff. That red vacuum that has been placed JUST SO in his bedroom for YEARS that nobody can touch? Oooopsie. Did I move that?

And, all of those doors that he closed on the way out of the house? I think his brother must have forgotten "the rules" and left them open.

That cup filled with water to the tippy, tippy top which he leaves in the same spot on the counter 24 hours a day. Hmmm, now where did that go?

Somebody picked the wrong battle today. Game on, son!
